Friday afternoon the nurse called and confirmed what the doctor thought. It is Bells Palsy, a viral infection, and with treatment it should go away. It was amazing that I heard the phone because I was in and out of the house packing up the camper for our impromtu weekend.
We are NOT planners. We camp when the opportunity presents itself. This time my sister had a spot she wasn't able to use and we snatched it up last minute. It was cool and the forecast predicted rain but we packed ponchos and mud boots and headed north.
We weren't there five minutes and the boys, Gavin brought a friend, had their lines in the water. Dad was still leveling the camper when they pulled their first fish outta the lake. What a great start to the weekend!
The rest of the weekend went fast and was a ton of fun. I think you will get more out of the photos than my jibber jabber so may I present to you the first camping weekend of 2011, gordo style...
fishing in the rain
computer games in the rain
picnic when the sun came out
more fishin'
canoe rental 3 hours $15, acutal use time 45 min before the rain and wind came back :)
even more fishin', I could see them from the camper - it was an awesome spot
it's getting hot out here
no more clothes
burying in the sand, everyone got a turn
boys
And just before our showers (read; sand where the sun don't shine) on the last day we ended the weekend the same way we began it with one super big fish on the line. We couldn't ask for anything more now could we?
The following are unscripted stories documenting my experiences as a mommy. I write about all the things I am passionate about, faith, family and frugality. Welcome to Mommyville.

Wisdom... recent snippets from our house that I just have to record...
Nora is breathing rapidly while she is feverish..."mom, I think I am mad, listen to my noise."
Addi, when told she was a little girl, " But mom I am not a baby, look, I am THIS looooonnng."
Addi tells her Aunt "I am a big girl, I wear panties all the time."
Gavin gets a kiwi out of the fruit drawer. "What are you eating?" I say. "Zucchini" he replies.
Nora: "Mom is it hungry time yet?"
Addi: bored..."Mom, I think I have to go to Sara's (daycare) today."
Nora at the zoo: right after a goat head butts the fence near Gavin, "Get me outta here...the aminals are gonna get me."
playing hide and seek at our house: Maleah screams from her hiding spot, "okay, we are ready, come and get us"...Addi "I hafta count first, one two free seven ten nineteen, ready or not I am here coming"
Gavin: I spent a little bit of time explaining to my kids about the burial process before the funeral. When we were at the cemetery in a small crowd of family walking to the burial place for Great Grandma Gordon, Gavin is observing where we are placing our feet and he yells a little too loudly, "Hey mom, we are walking on dead bodies."
Maleah: "oh" when her aunt Kim tries to explain what Bieber fever means. A few moment later, "Who is Justin Bieber?" she asks.
Gavin: "I pretty much know every word now," after the fourth time in three days of reciting the prayer of the rosary.
Nora: coming home from being out of the house for the 5th day in a row....runs to the dining room chair and gives it a hug, "I love my house, mommy."
Maleah: telling me about the bullying assembly at school. "and then he asked how many friends we had and some kids said they had hundreds of them...I didn't know they kept track like that." Me: "I think they are talking about facebook friends." Maleah: "oh"

...a very very very fine house
UPDATE: Addi just came running into the kitchen with her camo binaculours and said, " I am going to get the BIG one."
I asked her, "What are you hunting? Deer? Pheasant? Rabbit, Fish, Squirrel?"
"She put her hand on her hips and looked at me, "No, mom, I am hunting forks and noodles!"
quote of the day =
mom "Nora do you want peanut butter on your toast?"
Nora looks at mom quizzically and bends and touches her toes, "No toes, mom, SPOON!"
Some time ago the big kids ransacked our old cd collection. One of their favorites is a mixture of Tina Turner and Joan Jett. Right now they are in their rooms cleaning away to "What's love go to do with it?" and "I hate myself for loving you".
And I am praying for no unannounced visitors. Where is that VBS cd when you really need it?

Merry Christmas snowstorm
The snow is here, finally. Everyone has been talking about it for days...
We snuck out to Grandma Bonnie's yesterday morning and got some celebrating in. Last night we even got to go to Christmas Eve service, the candles were missing, but it was good for the soul and we saw the LIGHT anyway.
We miss daddy today, he left last night about an hour before they closed the interstate and we probably won't see him again until Monday morning. His employer has gracious supplied him with a warm room with a king size bed and shuttle service to and from the hospital. Now, if the hotel can only keep things as quiet as we do during the day so he can get a good day's sleep...
We will miss family today, too. Christmas dinner will not be the same without the whole crew. We are hoping we can catch up with them for New Years.
So we plan to hang out in new outfits and jammies, eat candy from the stockings, play with zhu zhu pets, parachute with screaming monkey slingshots, watch movies, snuggle up in beautiful memory quilts from thoughtful neighbors, eat cookies, make lego creations, dress baby dolls, race mario carts, drink hot chocolate, watch the snow fall, read books, play playdough, and color. Hope we have time to fit a nap or two in...
