big, deep, SIGH...

I think I should probably start posting my Monday multitudes again because lately I am having a hard time finding things to be thankful for.

This week was the first week that the kids went back to school. Crazy that August is almost over, isn't it?

Ryan and I stayed up late making salsa last night and I was dumping the ingredients in like I normally do, but I was off because it was WAY TOO salty. I threw a giant potato in there to cook it out a bit and it  helped but this batch will probably have to be my cooking batch. I wrote salty on all the lids to remind myself.

We got a little car for Ryan to drive back and forth to work with. We did a marathon test drive all day long and the fourth town we went to had the best deal. The kids love the fact that all of us can fit in it. It has 6 seatbelts. It also has a large trunk. If you talk to any of my children about that today they will probably tell you about how we drove around with the kids in the trunk to scare people last night. We didn't really drive around with them in the trunk, I mean, we did, but only for a very short distance like...half of a block and man was it worth it to see grandma's face. She was so shocked to open the trunk and see four kids in there. The kids had so much fun the only way we could bribe them to get back in the car was to promise they could do it again to Auntie Josie and then we had to promise to do it again. Until we ran out of people to scare and it was bedtime. Yep, that is how we spend our evenings in the village these days, we are real classy.

Actually my mornings are just as fun. My early morning walks have been stalked by two kittens. We have tried everything to ditch them. We even walked them back home one day. But, they are fans of walking right on top of our feet while we try to get around town. This morning I was laughing so hard I could barely walk myself. We are going to have to get a new route to avoid picking them up every morning. This morning we also picked up a dog on our route, too. I joked that if we had a pipe, we could persuade every animal in town to follow us.

Well, I used that salt soaked potato to creat a casserole for the girls and I for lunch and the oven is beeping so I best get off the 'puter.

Happy weekend folks. May you have animals follow you wherever you go.

****please don't forget****

Click on deals above to see the latest deals. I "share" several deals a day and most of them are time sensitive, so make a habit of checking them daily :)

Todays deals are mostly on prom dresses, running shoes, dishwasher detergent and a taco bell deal...there was an awesome peanut butter deal on amazon, but it expired already :)

Happy bargain hunting!

I have a lot of fun watching for deals so if there is something specific you are looking for let me know I would love to dig for you!

Finally Friday again

Well, the whole weaning from the internet has gone better than expected. I try to log on once a day to do my "business" and then get off and on with my life. It has been difficult but bearable.

You would think I would be a little more 'present' in my daily life because I am not on the laptop all day but actually, get this, I feel disconnected. I feel like I am not in the know and sort of marooned on Gordon family island. The internet is my connection with the world. It's not always a good connection but the communication is open none the less.

So, my Bible has been the replacement for the loss of surfing. It is going well. This regular old book of Genesis has some pretty amazing historical implications. Moses really knows his stuff. Satan attacks Genesis quite fervently so that alone tells you there is some solid stuff in there... I am still studying but it is a wonderful lesson. I am using the book What the Bible is all about by Dr.Henrietta C. Mears. My brother gave it to me for Christmas.

Keep my father in law in your prayers this week, please. He had gallbladder surgery. He is at home recovering. I hope it goes quickly for him.

Have a wonderful weekend. Monday will be here before you know it.

What's for dinner, mom?

If you are a parent or the cook in your home, for that matter, you probably hear this question every day.

I just stumbled upon this cool website that will help you have an answer for that question as long as you have a couple of ingredients in your fridge or cubboard, supercook.com.

From the website...

Supercook is a new recipe search engine that finds recipes you can make with only the ingredients you have at home. To begin, simply start adding ingredients you have in the green box on the top left. The more ingredients you add, the better the results will be.

Happy cooking!

the power of suggestion or subliminal messages

Remember when everyone said if you play some rock bands music backwards it would say subliminal cultic messages? Well, it was scary but at least people could not easily play the tapes backwards without special equipment.

My mom saw this doll in Shopko this weekend and had to try it for herself. Then she tried it out on some other people in the toy section. Everyone agreed that they heard the same thing.

You decide.

Watch this video.

A Pee Party?

Golden Showers Garden Party - 6/21/08

Golden Showers Garden Party

The Crunchy Chicken has another challenge. The comments suggest using diluted urine on your garden could help your produce PRODUCE!

Hmmmm...

Not sure I am up to the challenge but, we may have people over that weekend. Do you think if I asked them to pee in a bucket (for the good of the earth) they would call me crazy?

Probably.

Wonder if he would be interested in opening a gas station?

This kid is pretty amazing.

Maybe we ought to start a Montrose Development Corporation? Or do we already have one of those?

I had to drive 10 miles this morning to fill up my almost empty vehicle so that I can drive the three blocks to the school every day. It was a pain. But still not painful enough to make me want to buy the gas station and put in my own 100 hour work week. Hopefully someday soon someone will make the sacrifice. It's a tough one, for sure.

attention deficit

This picture is from last week. I was really going to post it, then got sidetracked, who me?

Anyway; apple crisp, nursing and keyboards do not make company. It was a sticky ooey goey mess and I am surprised the keys still work. In other computer news the right click button on my mouse has quit working. I never knew how important that little clicker was...

#1 lost another tooth and I am embarrassed to say the tooth fairy got caught in the bad weather we had and was unable to collect. My heart fell to my feet when I saw her face as she realized the fairy had not come. Amazingly enough, while we were at church that morning, she was able to visit. It MUST have been the snow that slowed her down. It couldn't be that her brain is completely fried and sleep deprivation has caught up with her in a bad way...
This morning #1 noticed another loose tooth. I am going to try and be on top of this one in case the tooth fairy's presence is requested in the next few days. Pray for me.

It's cold today. This morning the door was frozen shut. I don't like taking #3 out on days like this. BRRRRRR

blogger elbow?!? OUCH

For the past couple of days my left elbow has been sore. It feels like a bruise, yet there is hardly any evidence of one. I even asked my hubby to take a look at it last night, it was so sore.

Then this morning, as I sat down to the computer with my hot coffee and opened the 35 blogs I try to read daily into tabs, I leaned forward to start reading and realized that I have been setting my left arm on the edge of the computer desk. The sore part matches perfectly with the spot I was leaning on.

Hmmm, how ridiculous would I look wearing elbow pads while reading blogs at the computer?

****This blog will be temporarily interrupted by a quick weekend trip to Texas with my mother and sister. Have a super weekend everyone. I will blog back next week.

yeah, what she said...

I read a lot of blogs. I started doing this over a year ago and now I am hooked. Morning coffee, thirty some odd blogs to read and I get on with my day. One of the newest blogs I have gotten hooked on has an amazing author who is undergoing chemo for IBC and she describes how what I call my blog 'therapy' is like in better words than I ever could, here is a snippet.

I’ve found a community.

I’m amazed and overwhelmed at the depth of this community, as I find new blogs every day (or you find me) that blow me away with their wisdom, their humor, their insights into the minutae of daily life that reveal our innermost selves. I feel as if I’ve stepped through the looking glass and found a treasure trove (to mix my metaphors) of womenfolk waiting, blogging, each of us at our own computers and during our own children’s naptime, or respite from housework, or spare moment at the office, to discuss, to banter, to reminisce, and to offer a hug when it is needed most.

It’s hard to explain my affection for blogging and blogfriends to those not intimately familiar with it, but I think it goes something like this.

I’ve always been sure to have a metaphorical and physical space for my own work. A place where I felt comfortable spreading out, reading, writing, and leaving things on the table when I’m done. The Room of One’s Own that Virginia Woolf described has been critical to my thinking and writing throughout the years.

But blogging. Blogging is even better. Blogging is the window in the room.

It’s as if one day last August I walked into my room, turned on the lamp, and suddenly noticed the window on the far wall, where none had been before. When I opened the curtains, the room was flooded with light and warmth, and I could hear a chorus of voices spilling through. I looked out, and discovered an amazing view — not the restful mountains or the popular beach — but a courtyard, filled with children of all ages, laughing, playing, crying, inventing, growing up together, and a sea of other windows — moms — each in a room of their own, writing their own lives, but pausing intermittently to check on the children and to be inspired by them and the women who love them. The windows are close enough that we can call to each other on the spring breezes when we are stuck, when we have something to celebrate, when we have something to mourn.

And it’s a beautiful way to live.

Lemon sniffing anyone?

If you had asked me yesterday if I ever got morning sickness, I would have told you no. Never, with any of my preganancies. BUT, every late afternoon I feel ill and really thirsty and like I could sleep for 20 hours or so. So I broke one of my tmi (toomuchinformation) rules and went to the www for help. Guess what?
  • Morning sickness can occur at any time of the day, though it occurs most often upon waking, because blood sugar levels are typically the most depressed after a night without food.
I guess I need to eat a bigger lunch or an afternoon snack. Good thing I have a bit of Zofran left! (I promise I'll ask first)

Treatments for morning sickness typically aim to lessen the symptoms of nausea, rather than attacking the root cause(s) of the nausea. Treatments include:
* Avoiding an empty stomach.
* Eating five or six small meals per day, rather than three large ones.
* Ginger, in capsules, tea, ginger ale, ginger beer or ginger snaps
* Vitamin B6 (either pyridoxine or pyridoxamine), often taken in combination with the antihistamine doxylamine (Diclectin®).
* Lemons, particularly the smelling of freshly cut lemons.
* Accommodating food cravings and aversions.
* Eating dry crackers in the morning.
* Trying the BRATT diet: bananas, rice, applesauce, toast and tea.
* Drinking liquids 30 to 45 minutes after eating solid food.
A doctor may prescribe anti-nausea medications if the expectant mother suffers from dehydration or malnutrition as a result of her morning sickness, a condition known as hyperemesis gravidarum. In the US, Zofran (ondansetron) is the usual drug of choice, though the high cost is prohibitive for some women; in the UK, older drugs with which there is a greater experience of use in pregnancy are preferred, with first choice being promethazine otherwise as second choice metoclopramide, or prochlorperazine.

we all have different ways of coping with it

I came across this video journal of Morgan and his battle with Hodgkin's a while back. I love the way he chooses to express what he is going through. My kids and I dance to the theme music he has and we look forward to the updates he makes about once a month. Check out all of his videos on youtube.
